In the world of sustainability, action is everything. But moving from individual passion projects to a cohesive, impactful strategy is the challenge many smaller forward-thinking businesses face.

My clients at First Event have always been deeply committed to doing better. While they had already launched several successful environmental and social initiatives, they were keen to elevate their efforts to move beyond ad-hoc actions to build a structured, credible framework that would allow their team to lead the way in sustainable events.

I’m thrilled to share that through our recent collaboration, First Event has made a huge step forward in their sustainability journey, and are now officially accredited as a Bronze level Carbon Literate Organisation.

It’s About People, Not Just Policies

Often, I find that businesses fall into the trap of trying to sell sustainability before they truly understand it. They equip teams with a script, but not the foundational knowledge.

First Event are taking a different, more courageous path. By investing in Carbon Literacy training for all of their people, they're not just ticking a box, but creating a cultural shift.

So far, I’ve trained 34 members of the team (some certificates are pending review), over half of all employees, including the Managing Director. We’ve seen countless "lightbulb moments" during these sessions. It’s been incredible to watch the team move from a vague awareness of environmental issues to a deeper understanding of the science, the impact of climate change on society and events, and how their specific roles influence carbon impact.

By investing in their people properly, First Event is ensuring that sustainability isn't just an external sales pitch, it's an internal standard. They are building a team that has the foundational knowledge to drive real change from the inside out.

Pursuing this accreditation was about:

  • Empowerment: Giving the team the confidence to challenge the status quo.

  • A Common Language: Ensuring that everyone, from operations to sales, understands the ‘why’ behind carbon reduction.

  • Authentic Leadership: Proving to clients and stakeholders that their commitment is backed by informed, verified knowledge.

Ready to see the difference?

Accreditation is a milestone, not the finish line. First Event is now reaping the tangible benefits of a team that is genuinely engaged and aligned on sustainability.

If your organisation is ready to move from fragmented initiatives to a structured, credible strategy that delivers real impact, I can help you do the same. Here at sust., we don’t do "greenwashing" or box-ticking, we do sustainability that works.

Let’s start a conversation about what your team is capable of.

A big thanks goes to the team at the Carbon Literacy Project for their support and guidance.
